Stockholm: Gustav’s Town

The latest stop on the Baltic tour is the capital of Sweden and the most populous city in the Nordic countries: Stockholm. Settled sometime in the Stone Age, it officially became a city in the 1200s. Stockholm carries on the tradition of many Baltic cities of doing an great job in preservation of its history. Heading into the center of the city, we took a route that had us passing through Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s old town.

Making our way through town, we stopped by a city park to take in the local sights.  While there, we heard the slowly approaching grumblings of four stroke engines.  Soon the riders of local Vespa club chapter filled the area for their meet-up.

Stockholm is an archipelago of nearly 30,000 islands and islets.  One of the most exciting is Djurgården, an island in central Stockholm filled with parks, museums, monuments and other attractions.
